Governor Aria appointed as member of Benue Election Commission


Governor Hyacinth Aria of Benue State has sworn in the seven members of the State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC.

The governor, while inaugurating the commissioners in Makurdi on Thursday, charged the commission chaired by Dr. John Chen to immediately begin the process of conducting free, reliable and comprehensive parliamentary polls. commanded.

“Each of you has been selected on the basis of your non-partisan standing: your outstanding qualities, your integrity, and your unwavering commitment to the democratic principles that are the cornerstone of Benue’s progress and necessary for the survival of our democracy.

“When appointing each member, we explicitly require, under the Commission Establishment Act, that the chair and members have unquestionable integrity.

“This highlights the important role that committees play in building the foundations of democracy, as local councils and wards serve as the main liaison between government and the people,” the governor said.

He called on members of the committee to ensure the consolidation of democracy by holding free, fair and credible elections that accurately reflect the will and aspirations of the people of Benue.

“Our people deserve nothing less than a system in which their voices can be heard through their votes.

“I assure you of the government’s commitment to upholding the independence of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission. You can expect the full support of the government in carrying out its duties.

“This government is committed to upholding the tenets of democracy and ensuring that Benue’s electoral process is transparent, credible and inclusive,” Aria stressed.

He also thanked the committee members for accepting Mr. Benue's services.

He commended Parliament for the good work done in vetting and approving BSIEC members.

In response, Chairman Cheng of the commission said members understood the responsibilities of their jobs and the aspirations of Benue residents.

Mr Chen assured that the members would not disappoint the governor and the people of Benue, stressing that they have a clear vision of the state's expectations.
