Good Friday: Catholic bishops, leaders call on Nigerians to emulate Jesus' sacrifice

Bishop of the Oyo Diocese of the Catholic Church, Reverend Emmanuel Badejo, has called on leaders and Nigerians to imitate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Mr. Badejo made the call in his Good Friday message in Ibadan.

Badejo charged all leaders, authorities and Nigerians to imitate Jesus to improve society and institutions.

The Catholic bishop stressed that Good Friday teaches the best qualities of leadership: service, humility and love.

He pointed out that Good Friday symbolizes all challenges and problems in life, work, family and the country as a whole.

He explained that these problems are solved not just by prayer, but by serious, honest and selfless efforts by everyone to do good and oppose sin and evil.

“Nigeria is not beyond repair, but it is justice that lifts the country.

“Good Friday is the day Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life on the cross for the salvation of the world.

“Even though his suffering and death were painful and unjust, that's exactly what's good about this movie.

“Jesus Christ, the Son of God, laid aside his own glory and gave his life in love and humility. By his death on Good Friday, Jesus sacrificed himself for the benefit of others. We were taught that there are benefits to paying.

“God is pleased with the suffering and sacrifices a mother makes for her children and friends.

“Good Friday invites us not only to repent and be free from sin, but also to do something for others and enjoy God's favor,” he said.
