FRSC seeks support from stakeholders to reduce accidents on highways

The Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called for the support of stakeholders to reduce crash rates on the expressway.

The new Sector Commander in Ondo State, FRSC, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, made the call during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Akure.

Ibitoye, who was the Corps Commander in charge of policy at the National Headquarters before being posted to Ondo State, said he would restructure and redeploy the corps in the state.

According to him, administration and management of road safety is everyone’s responsibility and hence I need to work strongly with the stakeholders.

“I am here to realign and restructure the operations of the corps together with stakeholders, the public, government, trade unions and all road users.

“Ultimately, we need to have safe roads for people to travel from A to B to conduct their business.

“So, we want to mobilize stakeholders to work together so that we can ultimately reduce road accidents on Nigerian roads,” Ibiroye said.

He, therefore, reiterated the Corps’ commitment to ensuring safe, passable, seamless and collision-free roads.

Ibiroye, however, urged parents and guardians to not allow their wards and minor children to drive, saying, “Any minors found driving will be arrested and punished accordingly.”

According to the district commander, motorists should avoid overloading as it is a serious offence and has an impact on roads, people, vehicles and the economy.
