The Lagos State Government on Tuesday refuted accusations of financial misconduct against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu by Labor Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate for the March 18 election, Gbadebo Rose Bivuru in Ikeja.
On November 19, Mr. Rose-Vivour claimed on his Twitter account that Mr. Sanwo-Olu had used public funds to fund an election petition filed by the LP to oust him.
He said 50 million naira in legal fees were paid to four lawyers from an out-of-state fund.
Reacting to the allegations, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said Rose Vivour’s claims were false.
“This allegation was just another ploy to deceive the public about a non-existent N50 million payment to four lawyers.
“While it is worthwhile for patriotic individuals to scrutinize the finances of Lagos State, the results of such investigations must always be based on verified facts and nothing but the truth.
“The transaction that Rose Vivour referred to never took place.
“There was a request for payment, which was brought to the attention of the Attorney General and Attorney General, but the governor did not approve it because it was irregular.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Sanwo-Olu will never misappropriate public funds in violation of his oath of office,” he said.
Mr. Omotoso pointed out that Mr. Rhodes Vivour provided evidence of his claims in documents that lacked the official seal of the Lagos State Government or the approval of its representatives.
