The Labor Day weekend marks the beginning of the final stretch to Election Day. Vice President Kamala Harris spent the holiday in two important swing states.

“On Labor Day and every other day, we celebrate the dignity of work. The dignity of work, we celebrate unions because unions helped build America and unions helped build America's middle class,” Harris told a crowd of union workers in Detroit, Michigan.

She then traveled to Pennsylvania for her first campaign event with President Biden since being named the Democratic nominee.

“I promise you, if you elect Kamala Harris for president, it will be the best decision you ever made,” Biden said during the event.

Harris made it clear that she opposes the planned takeover of the US steel industry by a Japanese company and used the opportunity to attack Trump's previous economic policies.

“Remember that as president, Donald Trump denied overtime pay to millions of workers,” she said.

Trump was not on the campaign trail this weekend, but fired back at Harris on his social media platform Truth Social.

He further praised his administration's work in passing the USMCA – a trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada – and also clarified his position on a referendum in Florida.

A new ABC News/IPSOS poll shows Harris leading former President Trump among likely voters 52 to 46. The numbers show that she has widened her gap with female voters since the DNC, while Trump has done the same with male voters.

Trump returns to the campaign trail on Wednesday with a rally in Pennsylvania. Harris and Trump will then face off in their first televised debate on Tuesday, September 10.
