FIFA to investigate World Cup qualifier match between Argentina and Brazil

FIFA launched disciplinary proceedings against Argentina and Brazil on Friday.

This comes after the kick-off of the World Cup qualifiers was delayed due to fan violence at the Maracanã stadium.

The Argentine Football Federation (AFA) was charged with disturbing the crowd.

FIFA added that the Brazilian federation was accused of failing to properly manage the safety of the matches it hosted.

After the national anthem, a fight broke out between supporters of both sides.

The teams returned to their locker rooms and the game eventually started 27 minutes late.

“The players’ families were there too. We were more worried about that than playing the match,” Argentina captain Lionel Messi said.

Argentina won the match 1-0.
