FG promises contractors prompt payment for waste services
The Federal Government has committed to prompt payment to waste contractors for garbage disposal services to facilitate optimal service delivery in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Environment and Waste Management, Dr. Fred Kapakol, said this in Abuja on Friday.
Kapakor advised the contractors to work closely with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to keep the city clean.
He encouraged contractors to continue to perform their work with caution and not hide behind delayed wage payments.
He reminded contractors that Wike was focused on merit and asked them to demonstrate merit in all waste management services provided.
SSA has assured contractors that all outstanding payments will be made promptly to support operations.
The Chairman of the FCT Solid Waste Cleaning Contractors Association, Mr. Ibrahim Babayo, complained about the delay in wages due to the rising prices of petrol and diesel.
Mr. Babayo commended Mr. Kupakor for his prompt response to the contractor’s requests and assured the provision of effective garbage services to FCT residents.
AEPB Director Osi Braimah advised contractors to consider measures to maintain a clean environment within the FCT.
According to Braimah, it is important to create a clean and safe environment within the FCT for both residents and visitors.
