FG declares open application of 4IR technology


The Federal Government on Monday declared an open call for Fourth Industrial Revolution Technologies (4IRTA) aimed at optimizing Nigeria’s economy.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, disclosed this in a statement on X, with the aim of encouraging and stimulating the use of technology.

“Our aim is to encourage and stimulate the use of technology, especially Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as UAVs, IoT, AI and blockchain, to optimize different sectors of the economy,” Tijani said. said.

“We are therefore pleased to announce the launch of our first 4IRTA initiative in the agricultural sector.”

He added that the agricultural demonstration project will enable Nigeria to identify and mainstream market-ready innovations that leverage these 4IR technologies to improve the productivity and sustainability of the country’s agricultural sector.

These projects will be designed as pilots to demonstrate how these technologies can be successfully implemented in Nigeria.

Selected projects will be provided with up to N10,000,000 in funding to further deepen the application of 4IR technology in their operations.

The Department of Agriculture will provide support to selected pilot farms to navigate the path to scale and sustainability.

According to the Minister, applications are currently being accepted and will be made until Thursday, December 7, 2023.

In a related development, Mr Tijani told X that improved connectivity for Nigerians is a critical infrastructure for the country’s economic growth.

“As we co-create innovative solutions in the digital economy, we are learning from others around the world about policy tools and financing models that help connect unserved and underserved populations. We are actively learning from the community,” he posted.

He told a working group convened by the United Nations Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, SmartAfrica and other partners that the conversation on developing appropriate financing models to finance broadband connectivity will help address the digital divide. He said this was an important step toward filling the gap and an important achievement. A pillar of Nigeria’s infrastructure.
