The Federal Government and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have said Nigeria has made progress in the area of child protection through the popularization and application of the Child Rights Act (CRA).
The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, made this statement at a symposium and dialogue session with students from various schools.
The event was held at the Government Science College, Area 3, Abuja to commemorate World Children’s Day.
Kennedy-Ohanenye said the government remained focused on the rights of children across the country by ensuring access to essential goods, education and safety from abuse and violence.
She insisted that Nigeria must continue to ensure the safety of children.
“Children should learn today that this is a new Nigeria with President Bola Tinubu’s policy of new hope. This means your rights can never be tampered with again,” she said. said.
UNICEF Nigeria Program Director Chikodi Onyemerera said children’s rights to quality health services, education, the right to development, protection, education and protection from psychological abuse, among others, must never be violated. Stated.
“For Nigeria, all children’s rights are critical to producing children who will represent the country tomorrow and grow up to be responsible adults.
“Our key message to Nigeria, therefore, is that it is time to recognize the place of children in governance in terms of the resources of this country,” the official said.
