Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, on Thursday staged a peaceful protest demanding the holding of students union elections.

The gates to the school's permanent facilities were closed and access was denied to staff and students.

The protesting students called for student elections before admission.

They also demanded that dormitory fees be made optional rather than compulsory, that tuition fees be reduced, and that they denounced chest X-rays, expensive textbooks, and sexual harassment.

Dr. Atirola Moses Idowu, President of ASUP, Federal Polioffa Branch, Academic Staff Union, confirmed the development.

He told DAILY POST in a telephone chat on Thursday that the students were having issues with the institution's management over the issue of student elections.

“The main demand of the affected students was for a student union government election to be held, which was realized when the student union became active and the issue was brought before the management for action. It will be.

“This is a minor issue, but the students are not patient. I was with them for two hours to negotiate and appease the students as directed by the university president.

“The rector said we should continue negotiations with the students, but despite all the strategies we used, the students remained adamant.

“However, calm returned to the campus as soon as the management instructed students to return home for Easter celebrations,” Atirola added.
