FCTA resolves Lobito Plaza demolition issue
The Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) has trolled a recent social media video circulating on TikTok that purportedly showed the demolition of a square at Lobito Crescent, Use II, Abuja.
FCTA said the video in question is a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and cause unnecessary panic among residents, adding that the video was recorded two years ago in 2021. He pointed out that the building featured had not been demolished.
A statement signed by Mr. Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press Affairs in the FCT Minister’s Office, disclosed that the Development Control Authority had identified violations related to the use of the building rather than its demolition.
According to the statement, “Appropriate steps were subsequently taken to deal with this matter responsibly. Contrary to the claims in the video, the building was not demolished. Rather, in order to comply with regulations, The offending part has been deleted.
“For further clarification, I have attached a current photo of the building taken today, which clearly shows that the building is still standing. FCTA is committed to the welfare and safety of its residents. We are very careful to enforce regulations while ensuring.”
FCTA strongly condemns the deliberate spread of false information, stressing that it undermines community trust and safety.
The statement continued: “What’s even more distressing is the ethnic overtones attached to the videos in question. Such pranks are counterproductive and only create unnecessary fear and frustration.
“The FCTA urges the promoters of such misinformation to desist from this practice, as it does no good to society.
“We assure residents that the FCTA remains committed to transparent communication and responsible governance. We urge the public to verify information from reliable sources before disseminating it further.” We recommend that you do so.”
