Exco dissolution: Rivers APC blasts Ganduje

The chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Mr. Emeka Beke, has called on the party’s national chairman, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to reverse the decision of the National Working Committee to dissolve the party leadership in the state.

Beke filed the appeal in Port Harcourt on Thursday, arguing that the term of office of the party executive in the state had not yet expired.

Recall that the Ganduje-led APC NWC on Wednesday announced in Abuja the dissolution of Rivers Exco and the establishment of an interim committee in its place to oversee the party’s activities in the state for a period of six months.

The interim committee chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, is known as a colleague of former Peoples Democratic Party Governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently in the National Coalition with the APC.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Wike of the PDP as Rivers Minister, ignoring APC members such as Tony Cole, the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general election.

Mr Cole is an ally of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Mr Wike’s main political opponent in Rivers State.

Announcing the dissolution of the Rivers APC leadership in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Public Relations Secretary, Felix Mouka, said: “We resolved at the NWC meeting to dissolve Rivers APC and establish a management committee.

“The committee will have Chief Tony Okocha as its chairman and Eric Nwibani as its general secretary.

However, in response to the decision of the party’s national leadership on Thursday, the sacked Rivers APC Chairman, Mr. Emeka, maintained that under the party constitution, only the NEC had the power to dissolve elected state assemblies.

He said: “What does the party constitution say? Moral rights belong only to the NEC. I was surprised that the NWC said they had such powers. I don’t think there was ever a time when I gave it. It’s very shocking and surprising.”
