EPL: Why Rashford was given a penalty against Everton – Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has explained why he missed a penalty opportunity in the 3-0 win over Everton.

The Red Devils had already taken the lead thanks to a stunning strike from Alejandro Garnacho.

Anthony Martial scored the third goal late in the game, but the second goal from the penalty spot raised eyebrows after VAR ruled that Ashley Young had tripped Martial inside the penalty area.

Fernandes, who usually takes penalties, handed the ball to Rashford.

Rashford took the spot-kick, beating Jordan Pickford to score his second goal of the season.

Fernandes told Sky Sports about his decision: “Marcus needed a little bit of confidence and we needed a goal.

“He’s a good penalty taker. I was sure he could have taken that penalty and Marcus took it perfectly.

“I think obviously strikers and wingers need to score goals and that’s part of their game. Marcus was unstoppable and could play against anyone.”
