EPL: Pulling strings to get Neves to join Man City instead of United - Silva

Portugal international Bernardo Silva says he intends to pull some “strings” to get Benfica midfielder Joao Neves to join Manchester City rather than Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Silva and Neves are both national teammates on the Portugal national team.

Neves is having a breakthrough year at Benfica, joining the team in January to replace Enzo Fernandes, who moved to Chelsea for £105m.

The 19-year-old has been praised by Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and is hoping to join the Red Devils in the near future.

However, during a recent appearance at a gala event in Lisbon, Silva said: “Joao Neves in the Premier League? I think a player of quality can play in any championship. I see him very focused on his club. That’s the most important thing at the moment. Although he is a very young player, he has a very promising future ahead of him.

“He arrived in the national team and integrated very well. If the coach thinks so, he is also a player who can help us win the European Championship.

“City instead of United? If I could, I would help Joao Neves go to Man City. Of course I would like to see Joao join City instead of Man United. ”
