EPL: Michael Owen names former Manchester United star who was under-rated because of Ronaldo

Former Real Madrid and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has identified Nani as a former Manchester United star who was underrated due to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Owen said Nani may have felt he was in Ronaldo's shadow at Manchester United.

“There are a lot of players who were really talented but didn't reach their potential,” Owen told the Daily Star (via Manchester Evening News).

“And you know players who are extraordinarily talented and who probably could have done even more. Someone like Nani at Manchester United, when you talk to players, he's right next to Cristiano Ronaldo. He came up behind me. Maybe I was overshadowing him a little. But that kid's ability…”

Nani joined the Premier League giants from Sporting CP in 2007.

He spent eight years at Old Trafford, winning many trophies.

The Portuguese made 230 appearances for Man United, scoring 41 goals and providing 71 assists.

Nani was an excellent winger, but joined the Red Devils at a time when his compatriot Ronaldo was probably at his peak at the club.

However, Ronaldo left Man United in 2009 and moved to Real Madrid.

The year Ronaldo left, that was when Owen arrived at Man United from Newcastle United and the Englishman played alongside Nani at Old Trafford.
