EPL: Merson tells Klopp to start midfielder for Liverpool against Man City
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has urged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to start midfielder Wataru Endo when the Reds take on Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool head to the Etihad Stadium in a battle for first and second place in the Premier League.
If Klopp’s side win, they are likely to move into the top spot, but that will be difficult, especially since the Citizens have not lost at home to Liverpool in the league since Josep Guardiola took over in 2016. It will be a challenge.
“Liverpool are having trouble selecting players. I think they will play Joe Gomez at left-back instead of Kostas Tsimikas,” Merson told Sportkeeda.
“He is more of a defender and will push in. He has to be able to defend against City.
“In midfield, I’ll probably play Wataru Endo and put Alexis Mac Allister in the ‘number eight’ position. He has possession of the ball and that’s what he wants to do against Man City.
“If we want to beat City, we have to take advantage of the extra passes through the line. We need players who can pick out those passes.
“Endo is the perfect man for me here as he is patient and has the added advantage of maximizing Mac Allister’s potential.”
