EndBadGovernance: Protesters Carry Away Documents of Ganduje's Corruption Trial – Governor Yusuf
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said all cases of alleged corruption filed against resident APC National Chairman Ganduje at the state High Court were dismissed by the violent protesters.
The Kano State High Court was one of hundreds of places vandalised and set ablaze by “End Bad Government” protesters, who gathered in their hundreds to protest against hunger and starvation in the country.
Governor Yusuf, who inspected the state High Court on Wednesday, however, expressed concern that the file of former Governor Ganduje’s alleged corruption case was removed from the court.
The governor, who was shown around the court premises by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Issa Dederi, the Chief Registrar of the High Court, Abdullahi Ado Bayero, and other high court judges in the state, expressed indignation over what happened at the court.
This was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Kano today by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mr Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The statement described the vandalism as a masterminded and planned act, with hired thugs making off with documents relating to the alleged corruption of the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who is facing multiple charges at a state High Court.
“It is very unfortunate that enemies of Kano State have employed undesirable forces to demolish one of the state’s historic public buildings with a view to evading corruption charges against the APC National Chairman for Agriculture and former Governor of the state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his family and aides.”
The statement added that the perpetrators destroyed almost every part of the High Court, including the office of the State Chief Judge, causing damages of over One Billion Naira through the theft of office equipment, vandalism of offices, burning of vehicles and other relevant materials vital to the administration of justice.
Governor Kabir called on the youths in the state to desist from being exploited by their detractors to resort to violence and instead focus on acquiring skills for a better future, stressing that his government would not relent in protecting the lives and property of the people of Kano State.
The Governor asserted that justice, being the last hope of the common man, must be protected at all costs and directed for the immediate repair of the building and deployment of sufficient security personnel for effective administration of justice.
He commiserated with Chief Justice Dije Abdu Aboki and the entire judiciary over the ugly incident and urged them to be on their toes to make up for what was lost in the court proceedings in the interest of the general public.
