EFCC arrests couple on land fraud charges in Enugu



The Enugu Area Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Mr. and Mrs. Simon Udeani and his wife Dorcas Udeani before Justice MG Umaru of the Federal High Court in Enugu.

The EFCC said in a statement that the couple was charged with three counts of obtaining a false sum of N2,750,000 in an alleged land scam.

One of the charges against the Udeanians is that between July 10, 2019 and December 19, 2019, in Enugu, Enugu State, they gave N2,750,000 to Ms. Angela Chinyere of Onugu on the pretext of selling her land. It is said that he was induced to do so.

The land is located behind Ebenezer Episcopal Church, Ala Uguazi, along Enugu/Port Harcourt Road.

This offense contravenes section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Payment Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offenses Act 2006 and is punishable under section 1(3) of that Act. there is.

The couple pleaded not guilty and the prosecution lawyer, Nurudeen Ingawa, then prayed to the court for a trial date, while the defense lawyer, EC Nwauba Esq., applied for bail.

Justice Umar granted them bail in the sum of N5 million with one surety of the same amount. The guarantor must be a public servant of grade 10 or higher and residing within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case was adjourned until February 6, 2024.

In a separate case, Johnson Anyekwe was arraigned before Justice Cyprian Ajah of the Enugu State High Court on three counts of forgery, forgery and impersonation.

The defendant pleaded not guilty, prompting the prosecution lawyer, Nurudeen Ingawa, to request a trial date from the court, and the defense lawyer, AG Anigo, to pray for the court to grant the defendant bail.

Justice Aja granted the bail application and adjourned the case until March 7, 2024.
