Edo State Governor: No political party can rely on outside influence – PDP

Ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21, 2024, Executive Secretary, Asu/Ogie Campaign Council, Matthew Iduori-Ekemwen, on Tuesday said no political party in the state should rely on external influence to win the election.

DAILY POST reports that Iduori-Ekemwen made the remarks during a solidarity march to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodaro, in Benin City.

Iduori-Ekemwen, who led other members of the council including the party’s flagbearer and deputy leader at the solidarity rally, noted that President Bola Tinubu has always been at the forefront of the fight for democracy in Nigeria.

He urged people of the state to remain resolute and vote for his party's candidates in the elections, while alleging that the Opposition was trying to distract people with the court verdict.

He opined that the sentence would not be sustained.

Addressing the crowd of supporters and party faithful, the PDP governorship candidate, Asu Ighodaro, alongside his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, appealed to the people to support the party to win the election.

According to him, “By God’s grace, there will be a further upward movement by September when you all vote for me and Auggie.”

“I want you all to be strong. I want you all to be happy. There is nothing to fear. God is in control of everything. Everyone should prepare their PVCs for the September 21 elections.”

“We will vote for the PDP to ensure that our votes are counted and we will follow them to the counting centre until the winner is declared and the state continues to prosper,” he said.

Other party leaders who participated in the solidarity rally included the Deputy Director, Media and Publicity, PDP Governors Election Committee, Pastor Olu Martins, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, and PDP members of the House of Representatives.
