Edo Governor: INEC issues deadline for submission of nomination form

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has provided an update on the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
The commission has announced that the deadline for submission of candidate nomination forms is Sunday, March 24, 2024.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the National Chairman and Chairman of the INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun.
He said: “The deadline for political parties to conduct primaries has expired on February 24, 2024, as stipulated in the calendar and schedule of activities for the upcoming off-cycle Edo State gubernatorial election.
“The next activity is to submit the political party nomination form through a dedicated online portal.
“The Commission recommends political parties to upload personal information of candidates (Form EC9) and names/list of nominated candidates (Form EC9B) to the portal which will open at 9:00 am on Monday 4 March 2024. We have set a period of 20 days. It will automatically shut down on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 6:00 PM.
“Access codes to the portal will be available for collection by national chairs of political parties from today.”
He added that “the commission is once again organizing retraining for two liaison officers per political party” to help each political party secure nominations.
“The training begins today, Friday, March 1, 2024, and ends on Monday, March 4, 2024.The venue is the Media Center, INEC Headquarters, Abuja.”
“The media center will also act as a help desk during the nomination period in case political parties require assistance.
“The commission would like to draw the attention of political parties that 20 days is sufficient to upload the nomination forms of two candidates of each party (governor candidate and vice-presidential candidate).
“Therefore, there is no reason to request an extension and no extension will be granted beyond Sunday, March 24, 2024.
“Political parties need to strictly adhere to the schedule.”
