Edo Deputy Governor Shaibu announces his candidacy for the 2024 Edo gubernatorial election


Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has officially declared his candidacy for the 2024 gubernatorial election.

In a pre-recorded speech aired today (Monday), Mr Shaibu said he would run for governorship on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

After the official declaration, Mr. Shaibu set up an election office in Benin City with party supporters present.

“After all the consultations we had, we now had to let the people know the answer to the consultations. And the answer is clear: they asked me to run,” he said in Edo from 2016. said the 53-year-old, who serves as deputy governor.

He said he is committed to the development and growth of the state and is determined to make the South-South great again.

Mr. Shaibu was involved in a fierce battle with Mr. Obaseki, which resulted in the forced relocation of his office outside the official residence.

He then apologized to the principal and asked for forgiveness.

Edo is one of eight states with gubernatorial elections off-cycle due to lawsuits and court rulings.

Other states participating in off-cycle governorship polls include Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun and Ondo.
