Easter: IGP orders appropriate deployment of personnel nationwide
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of police personnel and operational personnel to areas where security threats are expected across the country ahead of the 2024 Easter celebrations.
A statement by military spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in Abuja said the Inspector General also ordered 24-hour security and protection of public spaces across the country before, during and after Easter celebrations.
“Commissioners of Police (CPs) and their supervising Assistant Regional Inspector Generals (AIGs) are directed to deploy personnel and operational assets to areas of anticipated security threats within their Areas of Responsibility (AoR). ing.
“Intensive and aggressive visual patrols will be carried out at all worship centres, railway stations, highways, motor parks, airports, waterways, recreation centres, banks and other financial institutions.
“Patrols will also cover other critical infrastructure and public spaces,” he said.
He assured all travelers visiting his hometown and other parts of the country for the celebrations to ensure adequate security, regardless of the mode of travel.
According to the IGP, adequate safety measures were in place to cover passengers traveling by road, air, water and rail.
He said deployments have been expanded and visibility patrols have been strengthened in all areas, including air patrols and surveillance.
The Inspector General congratulated Nigerians, especially the Christian community, on the occasion of Easter celebrations.
He commended the people for their continued cooperation in supporting the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies and providing prompt and actionable information for the prevention and detection of crime.
“As we commemorate the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us unite and remain vigilant to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to serving and protecting the people.
“We urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to your local police station/post office,” he said.
