Donald Trump explains why his wife Melania didn't appear in the family Christmas photo and didn't attend the New Year's party

Former US President Donald Trump addressed his wife's absence from a Christmas family photo that sparked speculation there were problems in their marriage.

The photo, taken at Mar-a-Lago, showed most of the Trump family, including his 17-year-old son Barron, Melania's father and other family members.

Speaking to a crowd at a New Year's Eve party at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump said Melania was absent because she is currently at her mother's side at a nearby hospital.
