Do not use the pulpit for political or personal gain – Governor Kebbi, Idris warns

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has called on Islamic scholars to stop using their pulpits to promote political and selfish interests.

Idris gave this advice on Thursday when he paid tribute to Salah to the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

“It is clear that some ulama are taking to the pulpit and using tafseer sessions to criticize their leaders and to heap abuse on their own persons for smear campaigns and self-realization.

“I am not immune from such acts either. In order to protect the sanctity of our religion and the dignity of our leaders, such unholy behavior must stop,” the governor said.

He stressed that ulama should uphold their values ​​as good characters and moral builders and stop tarnishing their faith for personal grandiosity.

The governor acknowledged the support and cooperation of the Gwandu Emirate Council to his administration.

He tasked traditional institutions in the state with continuing prayers for the peace and prosperity of the country.

The governor also expressed happiness over the resumption of the annual durbar festival, which had been canceled for many years.
