Former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves could be sentenced to nine years in prison if found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub.
Prosecutors are seeking a long prison term, £130,000 in damages and a 10-year suspended sentence, according to news agency EFE.
It is reported that the case has finally reached the trial stage in Spain.
Alves was arrested on January 20 and is being held in a prison on the outskirts of Barcelona.
The 40-year-old man denies any wrongdoing and insists the sex was consensual.
Alves was ordered to stand trial earlier this month for changing his testimony four times.
His bail was denied by a judge in January after he was arrested on December 30 on suspicion of sexual assault in the bathroom of Sutton nightclub in Barcelona.
