Customs seizes 15,449 liters of PMS and other goods worth NOK 13 million

Comptroller Salisu Abdullahi, Customs Area Controller, Adamawa-Taraba Regional Command, said the command had seized various items including 15,449 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with a Cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N13,749,110.35. It was announced that 19 cases had been recorded. .

Abdullahi stated this at a press conference held at the regional military headquarters in Yola on November 17, 2023.

Other items seized include 19 cartons of foreign pesticides and 26 x 50 kg bags of foreign parboiled rice.

The Comptroller said that due to the flammability of PMS, most of the products were disposed of in accordance with current law, and the resulting proceeds were transferred to a federal account.

He said the part of the PMS that remains on the ground will also be auctioned immediately after the briefing.

“The seizure of the PMS is on the ground of violation of Section 246 of the Nigeria Customs Act, 2023 and in view of the fact that the command’s territorial borders remain officially closed.”

The comptroller said the command was unable to arrest anyone as all the smugglers were in hot pursuit.

He called on Nigerians, stakeholders and all relevant security agencies at the command frontline to continue to cooperate with the Customs Service as the fight against this smuggling menace cannot be done alone.
