Babatunde Ojebui, a senior lecturer within the Department of Communication and Language Arts on the University of Ibadan, stated the COVID-19 pandemic and insecurity have adversely affected the lives of many Nigerian youths.

Mr. Ojebui made this declaration to contributors on the “Youth Aspirations and Resilience” workshop organized by the African Partnership for Social and Governance Research (PASGR) in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation.

The workshop held in Ibadan on Wednesday was attended by varied youth organizations, opinion leaders and media representatives.

Ojebui, who additionally served because the challenge’s principal investigator in Nigeria, mentioned the outcomes of the analysis challenge, highlighting the foremost limitations dealing with Nigerian youth as a consequence of components such because the COVID-19 pandemic and insecurity.

He defined that these challenges have varied adverse impacts on the aspirations of younger Nigerians.

He stated, “Several barriers such as the COVID-19 pandemic and insecurity have adversely affected the aspirations of young men and women in Nigeria in various ways. say the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their business more than before COVID-19. More than five in 10 young people have increased opportunities and customers. However, young women generally experience more emotional trauma: they are forced to stay at home to care for their children, and in the process; Many of them were victims of rape and other forms of domestic crimes.”

In his opening remarks, Joel Otieno, Program Officer for Research and Policy at PASGR, emphasised the potential of younger folks to drive Africa’s progress.

He stated: “We are based in Nairobi, Kenya. What is important to us is that the youth are at our heart. Young people have the potential to unlock Africa’s growth.”
