Court remands two men on charges of manslaughter

A Kaduna High Court on Wednesday ordered Abubakar Zubairu, 26, and Hamza Bala, 28, to be remanded to a correctional facility for allegedly hitting Ilyas Audu on the head with a stick, causing his death. was lowered.

The defendants, who live in Badiko, Kaduna, were charged with conspiracy and murder, but they pleaded not guilty.

Justice Amina Bello adjourned the case until January 18, 2024 for judgment on defense lawyer Jibrin Khalil's bail application and ordered the defendants remanded.

Earlier, Prosecutor Precious David had told the court that the accused and one Umaru Dogo, who is currently on the run, attacked the deceased at his home in Tudun Wada, Kaduna State on November 11.

David claimed the defendants used knives and sticks to inflict injuries on the victim's head and other parts of his body.

“The victim was rushed to Kaduna Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” he said.

David claimed that when the defendants came to rescue Sani Rabiu, they tried to kill her by stabbing her in the abdomen with a knife.

However, the defendants denied the crime.

According to prosecutors, these crimes violate sections 97 and 221 of the Kaduna State Penal Code.

However, the defendant's lawyer filed a motion to release his client on bail with a five-paragraph affidavit, asking the court to grant bail on liberal terms.

He said the defendants were well-behaved, would not jump bail, and reliable sureties would be provided to meet bail conditions.
