Court of Appeal upholds victory of two Abia PDP members

The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the victory of Ugochukwu Collins Iheonukwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who has been duly elected as the Abia State House of Assembly member for Isiala Gwa North constituency.

The court dismissed the appeal, saying Mr Uluakpa’s prayers of innocence from the Labor Party (LP) were worthless.

The Court of Appeal also upheld the victory of Mr. Chijoke Uluakpa (PDP) as the duly elected member of Ugwunagbo constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.

The Court of Appeal had earlier rejected the petition by Labor’s Iheanacho Wabara, agreeing with the court’s ruling that the petitioner had failed to prove his case.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Majority Leader of the Labor Party (LP) in Abia State House, Destiny Nwagwu, has been removed by the Court of Appeal for failing to prove her membership in the party ahead of the March 18 elections. The three-member committee ruled that Nwagwu’s nomination was invalid and that he was ineligible to contest the election. The court subsequently declared Mr. Aaron Uzodike of the PDP as the duly elected member representing Aba North constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.

The dismissed LP lawmaker led some members of Congress in a protest against his dismissal, calling the ruling the ultimate injustice.
