Court of Appeal ruling on Adebutu’s petition against Abiodun raises tensions in Ogun

There is apparent tension between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Court of Appeal rules on Mr. Ladi Adebutu’s petition against Governor Dapo Abiodun. ing.

Mr. Adebutu, a candidate of the PDP, had approached the court to challenge Mr. Abiodun’s victory in the March 18 gubernatorial election.

PDP candidates had argued that the election that returned Mr. Abiodun was not in accordance with the provisions of the electoral law.

He also claimed that the election was marred by fraud and corruption, adding that more than 40,000 voters were disenfranchised by violence.

He asked the court to invalidate the election and declare him the winner.

However, the Hamidu Kunaza-led court dismissed Mr. Adebutu’s petition, arguing that it lacked merit.

Unsatisfied, Adebutu went to the Court of Appeals to seek relief, praying that the first instance judgment be set aside.

DAILY POST reported that lawmakers from both parties left Ogun State to attend the trial in Lagos State.

The trial will begin by 9am at the Court of Appeal, Igbosere, Lagos.
