Court continues hearing Ogun school teacher rape case in February

The court has set a date for February 9, 2024 for further hearing in the rape case against a secondary school teacher in Ogun State, Olaniran Lateef Adewale.

The Ogun State Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, disclosed the matter to the court on Monday, pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Adelai added that the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is actively monitoring the situation regarding the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the Olaniran case (alleged rape of the two).

She said for the record that the matter was brought before the Odeda Magistrate Court, Odeda, where the magistrate ordered the remand of the perpetrators at Oba Maximum Correctional Institution.

“As a ministry committed to upholding justice and fostering a society that has zero tolerance for gender-based violence and other social vices, we remain steadfast in our efforts to ensure that justice prevails,” Adelai said. he said.

“We stand in solidarity with all victims of gender-based violence and our resolve to address these issues remains unwavering.

“Our efforts are directed toward creating a safe environment in which everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive without fear of violence or discrimination.”

Mr. Adeleye said the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration has clearly affirmed its stance against all forms of gender-based violence in any name.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs, in a statement on X, also reiterated that such acts will not be tolerated within the society.

Mr. Adeleye said the current administration will continue to resolutely implement measures to protect the rights and security of all individuals.

“As the legal process continues, we call on the public to remain vigilant and support our collective commitment to a society free of all forms of violence and social injustice,” she added. .

Governor Ogun had earlier promised justice for the rape victims of Olaniran, a mathematics teacher at Ebenezer Grammar School in Iberekodo, Abeokuta. Mr. Olaniran is from Ipokia Local Government Area of ​​the state.
