Construction worker rescued after building collapses in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has rescued a construction worker trapped in a collapsed building under construction in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.

On Saturday, a portion of an under-construction building near Taj Bank in the district’s central business district area collapsed, trapping workers, it was gathered.

FEMA Director of Public Affairs, Nkechi Isah, made this disclosure in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

According to him, the victims were workers who were working on the first floor of the building at the time when all of them collapsed.

She said the victim was rescued and taken to the National Hospital Trauma Center in Abuja for treatment.

She added that FEMA was called around 4 p.m. after construction workers failed to rescue their trapped colleagues.

“FEMA search and rescue teams and the FCT Fire Department responded to the distress call and with the help of rescue equipment and a construction company’s excavator, were able to rescue the trapped man,” she said.
