Christmas: Osun CP tells commanders to strengthen security

The Commissioner of Police, Osun Police Command, Ishaku Mohammed, has assured that watertight security measures will be in place before, during and after the Christmas celebrations across the state.

CP Mohammed also instructed area commanders, tactical commanders and divisional police officers (DPOs) to conduct operations with police personnel to take control of public places, especially places of worship, recreation centers, amusement parks and other social concentration facilities. He instructed them to deploy personnel.

The directive comes days after the command announced a statewide ban on the use of fireworks and street carnivals during the Christmas festivities.

He also ordered police officers to strictly adhere to and enforce this season's operational orders and ensure high-visibility intelligence-led security on highways and across the state.

CP Muhammad disclosed this in a statement issued by the command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, in Osogbo on Friday.

“Good citizens of the state should cooperate with the security personnel assigned for these special duties in order to carry out their lawful business without any qualms and to bring to the fore the sole objective of protection of life and property. We recommend that you do so.

“I also urge the public to be law-abiding, orderly and vigilant before, during and after Christmas.

“The police must continue to support the police by providing them with appropriate information in order to achieve a peaceful atmosphere.

“To report suspicious persons or movements to the police, you can call the following numbers: 08039537995, 08123823981 and 08075872433,” the PPRO said.
