Chloe Bailey laments racism in the music industry

Famous American singer and actress Chloe Bailey has lamented racism in the music industry.

The 25-year-old lamented the way black artists are boxed into genre silos while white singers are categorised as mainstream pop stars.

She argued that because she is black, her music is classified as R&B.

In her cover story for Nylon magazine, Chloe argued that if a white person made the same music as her, it would fall into the pop category.

“Any music I make is immediately classified as R&B because I'm a black woman. If someone who doesn't have my skin color made the same music, it would be put into the pop category. That's just how it's been my whole life,” she lamented.

She added that music “has no race, no genre. There's nothing like that. It's just a feeling, a vibration.”
