Child branded as a witch and abandoned in Akwa Ibom

Danish aid worker Anja Loven Ringgren Loven and her team rescued a malnourished girl abandoned and left to die in Akwa State after she was believed to be a witch.

Loven, who disclosed this on Thursday, March 28, 2024, said that the child was found in a near-death situation.

“Yesterday we received a call in a village to rescue a girl in a very critical condition,” she wrote.

“The Director of Child Development at Land of Hope went with our rescue team to the scene.

“Orok was surprised to see the girl in a near-death situation. They say she is 1 year and a few months old.

“The girl was abandoned. Children accused of witchcraft are often left to die in the bush.

“The girl is now in the Land of Hope. Please help her with medical treatments.”
