Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has revealed that he and his team-mates cried when Jose Mourinho was sacked as manager during his first spell at the club.
He said Mourinho’s departure had made the training ground very emotional. But they were able to put it into training for the day.
“It’s hard to say goodbye. Of course, the most special for me was when (Jose) Mourinho was sacked.
“A lot of people were in tears and crying. It was very emotional because he had just won the Premier League twice and was a young player and a special player,” Mikel said on the podcast The・Obi-Wan” in the latest episode.
He added: “It was crazy. We were all emotional, crying over everything and then he left and five minutes later we were all on the training pitch, everyone laughing and joking. is.
“We just went ahead with it, but we started talking about it after training. When we get on the pitch again, we’re like, ‘We’ve got to keep working.’
“We will start training and focus on the next game and the next manager and how to get back to winning ways. The reason Mourinho was sacked was because we were not winning games.”
