BENE: PDP claims Governor Arya violated law by appointing LG interim committee

By-election: Aria orders the delegate convention to be canceled

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Aria has ordered the cancellation of the delegate meeting for the by-election in Guma state constituency in the state.

Governor Arya issued the order at a press conference on Saturday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House in Makurdi.

He said the exercise was marred by irregularities as unknown people came to the venue to hijack the process.

Governor Arya said he took the decision to order the suspension of the assembly session as the youth in the area were becoming emotional and this could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

He said peace was returning to Guma LGA, which has been a flashpoint of violence in the state, and there was a strong need to suspend parliament to prevent a slide into anarchy.

Governor Arya said it was the governor's prerogative to maintain peace in the state as the suspension of the legislative session has become inevitable, causing huge tension in the state.

He ordered security agencies in the state to maintain law and order to avoid breach of order.

Governor Arya assured that the national leadership of the party would make every effort to maintain peace within the party.
