NCS reacts to allegations of forcibly removing Emefiele from correctional facility

Breaking News: Former CBN Governor Emefiele released from Kuje Prison

Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the embattled Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has been released from Kuje prison.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Umaru Abubakar, confirmed this exclusively to DAILY POST on Saturday.

Abubakar said Emefiele was released from Kuje Prison on Friday after fulfilling his bail conditions.

“Godwin Emefiele was released on Friday. After fulfilling his bail conditions, the police released him,” he told DAILY POST.

This development comes after Justice Hamza Muasu on November 22, 2023 granted Emefiele bail of N300 million, including the condition that the surety must land the property in the Maitama area of Abuja. It happened a month later.

Judge Muasu ordered Emefiele to be held in custody pending bail conditions.

Recall that Mr. Emefiele was arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Federal Government of Nigeria on charges of procurement fraud to the tune of N1.2 billion.

Meanwhile, the news of his release comes amid revelations of Emefiele's continued financial fraud, according to an interim report by Jim Obazie, the special agent investigating the CBN.
