Bonifatius nominated for Bundesliga Newcomer Award for the fourth time

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has once again been nominated for the Bundesliga Newcomer of the Month award, making it his fourth consecutive shortlist.

Bonifati has been attracting attention since joining Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, winning the Bundesliga Newcomer of the Month award for three consecutive years in August, September, and October.

And on Monday, the Bundesliga's official website listed the Super Eagles attacker as one of the nominees for the award in November, along with two other players.

According to the shortlist, Boniface will compete for the top individual award with RB Leipzig winger Xavi Simons and SC Freiburg's Marlin Rohr.

Meanwhile, in Leverkusen's 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, Boniface scored the equalizer with an assist from Patrik Schick.

Julian Ryerson gave Dortmund the lead within five minutes, but Boniface equalized in the 79th minute to maintain Leverkusen's unbeaten Bundesliga record.

The goal was the 22-year-old's eighth goal of the 2023/24 season, breaking his Bundesliga record of not scoring in five consecutive games.

He got off to a great start in Germany, scoring 12 goals and providing 6 assists in 19 games for Leverkusen.

So far, the Nigeria international attacker has been in great form, contributing to a total of 13 goals in the Bundesliga.

This comes after he played 13 games for the club in the German top flight, scoring eight goals and providing five assists.

The 22-year-old has four goals and one assist in five Europa League games, as well as one goal in the DFB Pokal.

Including all of this, the Super Eagles striker has contributed to a total of 19 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions.
