Bodies of three actors involved in Anambra boat accident have been recovered.

The Anambra State Police Command has said it has recovered the bodies of three people involved in a boating accident that killed popular movie actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, and another person.

The boating accident occurred on Wednesday when the cast and crew of the film were returning to Asaba from the film's location in Anambra West along the river.

Police on Wednesday rescued seven of the 12 passengers on the boat, two of whose bodies were recovered and three others missing.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said they have since dispatched marine police to search for the three missing persons.

But on Friday, it said the bodies of the remaining three victims had been found.

He said: “The Maritime Police Command of Anambra State Command has recovered the bodies of the remaining three victims of the unfortunate boating accident involving movie actors.

“Two of the bodies were recovered yesterday, Thursday, April 11, 2024, and the last one was swept away by the tide this morning (Friday).

“All bodies have been placed in the mortuary of a hospital in Asaba, and the president of the Actors and Actresses Guild has been informed of his recovery.''

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, used the occasion to appeal to all water commuters to be safety conscious and avoid actions that may endanger their safety or the safety of others.

He promised to expedite the investigation into the tragic accident that claimed the lives of five actors.
