Bandits kill one, kidnap eight passengers in Niger State, demand N17m ransom

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed the driver of a commercial bus and kidnapped 8 passengers between Luma and Babana in Borgu Local Government Area of ​​Niger State.

The incident happened when the deceased and others were returning from the installation of the president of the Borgu Kingmakers and the high priest Bakarabonde on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

It was learned that a bus passenger, allegedly covered in blood, pretended to have died, forcing the gunmen to abandon her.

It was also learned that the kidnappers set fire to the vehicle in which the victims were traveling.

The Chairman of Borgu Local Government Council, Alhaji Suleiman Yerima, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, described it as “regrettable”, adding that he informed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Hamidu Jantabo, who will pass on the information to all competent authorities.

Yerima revealed that the bandits made contact with the local government demanding a ransom of N17 million.

“Where will I get N17 million,” he asked.

The Council boss advised motorists traveling on local government roads, especially at night, to alert local security guards who will provide them with adequate security.
