Bandits kill 10 farmers and others in Taraba

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have killed several people including 10 farmers in Yangtu Development Area and Ussa Local Government Area of ​​Taraba State.

A youth leader and public relations analyst, Mr Ure Caleb, said the victims were killed in separate attacks on communities in Ussa LGA and Yangtu on Friday, November 24, 2023.

Chairman of Ussa Local Government Council, Mr Peter Shamwun, told journalists that the gunmen attacked and killed nine people in Rubur Ribasi, Nyicwu and Ruwah communities of Yangtu Special Development Area at around 6pm.

Shamwun said the bandits laid siege along the Takum-Ussa road, killing more people, adding that the bandits also attacked Kpambo Yashe community in Ussa local government where one person was killed and others were injured.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Usman, confirmed that ten farmers were killed while heading to their farms.

He added that the incident occurred at around 7am near Jenuwa Gida in Takum LGA on Friday and was reported two hours later.

He explained that the attackers escaped after the attack, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, ordered the immediate deployment of an anti-kidnapping team to the area.

“The victims, all members of the Kuteb ethnic group, were identified as Hope Hassan, Rimamsomtse Lamadi, Holiness Enoch, Rimamtsiki Enoch, Egwu Hassan, Saleh Kyatiki, Ephraim Atenji, Manasseh Atenji and Hassan Songure,” he said.
