Bandits invade village in Niger state and kidnap child and couple

Bandits have abducted three people, including a child, in Garam village, a community in Niger State that borders the FCT.

This comes just a week after bandits invaded the village, killed a pastor from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and kidnapped 13 other people.

A resident of Garam, Lucky Barnabas, who confirmed the latest kidnapping incident to Daily Trust, said it happened at around 12:13 pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

He said the bandits, who came in large numbers wielding AK-47 rifles, fired in different directions to create panic among residents of the community.

He said the bandits took away a man, his wife and a child who lived with them, adding that the guards were defenseless due to the bandits' heavy gunfire.

“My brother, we couldn’t sleep last night because these bandits came back after a week when they came and killed one person and kidnapped four people. In fact, this was like a war, with gunfire everywhere,” he said.

No immediate response from the police command in Niger State on the incident, but residents said some military agents arrived in the area soon after the incident.

They would have followed the bandits' trail, but were unable to rescue the victims.
