Aviation minister calls emergency meeting with top regulators over safety concerns
Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo has convened a meeting of chief executives of aviation regulators over recent recurring safety issues in the airline industry.
The minister disclosed this in a statement on his official X handle on Monday.
During the meeting, he stressed the need for a thorough evaluation of recent events.
He writes: “We will discuss recent accidents in this area and then brief the press on the results of our deliberations to avoid such incidents.”
“As the public has voiced safety concerns in the aviation industry, I will call the heads of regulatory agencies into my office later today to review the incidents that are causing these concerns and take appropriate action. “We have decided to ensure that measures are taken to prevent future occurrences and, where appropriate, apply sanctions in relation to past incidents.” ”
The agencies involved are the Nigerian Airspace Management Authority (NAMA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

As a result, wet-lease aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines have reportedly been grounded.
