Automation of passport applications is 99% complete – Minister
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji Ojo said the automation of passport applications was 99 per cent complete.
He said a new way to apply for a passport would be introduced from next week.
According to the minister, this means that applicants only go to the Immigration and Passport Office for biometric verification and nothing more.
Appearing on Channels Television on Tuesday night, Tanji Oro said: You said December. That’s what we said. Let me tell you, it’s 99 percent done. In fact, we’ve been testing it.
“We are planning to go live in the next week or so. Like I said, then the only thing Nigerians will have to do at the passport center will be biometrics. They will just take their fingerprints.
“Everything else, including uploading the passport, is done from the comfort of your home. It was actually supposed to be published about two weeks ago, but when they came to give a presentation, some I realized my mistake and said no.”
