Atiku mourns poet Olanrewaju Adepoju

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the passing of poet Olanrewaju Adepoju.

Mr. Adepoju, a Yoruba poet, writer, artist and religious leader, passed away on Sunday at about 7pm at his Idi Ologbo residence near Lin Lin Road, Ibadan, Oyo State.

He was 83 years old.

His son, Adejare Adepoju, broke the news in a short announcement on Sunday, saying, “Baba has gone to rest. Inna lilahi wa inna ilaehi rujuuna. Rest in peace, my father, Olanrewaju Adepoju.''

Reacting to X on Tuesday, Atiku wrote:

“Lanre Adepoju was a great compatriot who used his talent in Yoruba poetry called Ewi to neutralize misrule and immoral acts in society.

“He was also a practicing Muslim who lived with utmost humility and simple discipline.

“I share my sorrow with his family and friends and pray to Allah (SWT) to grant him Al-Jana Firdaus.”
