ATBU Tear Gas Police Students Protest Against Their Classmate's Murder by Robbers (Videos)

Tensions erupted on Monday, December 4, at the Yelwa Campus of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, in Bauchi, when students, protesting the killing of their classmate, were tear gassed by police officers.

Remember that a 500 level Geology student was killed by an armed robber on the night of Saturday, December 2nd (read here).

The victim, Joseph Agabaidu, was reportedly returning to his accommodation located near Yelwan Tudu Market in Yelwa area, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, at about 7pm when he was attacked. He died on the morning of Sunday, December 3, from injuries sustained during the attack.

ATBU students have scheduled a peaceful protest regarding Joseph's death for Monday, December 4th.

However, the protest was interrupted by police officers who parked their armored trucks in front of the school gate.

A video from the scene shows students, who closed the school gate, singing solidarity songs. However, they fled when gunshots rang in the air.

Other photos from the scene show them running as smoke, believed to be from a tear gas canister, surrounded them.
