Army and vigilante rescue six kidnapped victims in Kebbi forest
The Nigerian Army and vigilantes have successfully rescued six abducted victims and dislodged dozens of bandits in a forest in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Malam Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser to Governor Idris, who disclosed this in a press release on Saturday, November 25, 2023, said the success recorded came after a proactive rescue operation effort launched by the combined security team in the forest of Shanga, receiving reports of kidnapped victims.
“According to the Director of Cabinet Security, Birnin Kebbi, AbdulRahman Usman, the six rescued male victims were all healthy and have since been reunited with their families,” Sarki stated.
“Usman explained that troops of the 1st Battalion Dukku Barracks Birnin Kebbi on clearance operation in conjunction with the local Vigilante conducted an attack operation on Kogon Damisa hill near Saminaka in Shanga local government area, a border town between Kebbi and the Niger state.
“During the operation, the team dislodged a large number of bandits and rescued 6 kidnapped victims.
“The victims have been reported as kidnapped for some time. Security agents in the area made up of the army and local vigilantes were alerted and went into action inside the Shanga bush. Fortunately, the victims were rescued by security,”
Usman commended the gallant efforts of the troops while reiterating the Kauran Gwandu-led administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting security agencies in the state.
He said in addition to the governor’s continued logistical support to security operatives, the state security chief has given marching orders to all security personnel to deal decisively with any threat to the lives and properties of the people in the State.
