Armed groups kidnap Imo monarch Ohiri

Unidentified gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a former chairman of the Imo State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri.

DAILY POST reported that the king was taken away by hoodlums from his home in Orodo Mbaitli LGA of Imo State in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The respected traditional ruler of Orodo Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo was reportedly taken to an undisclosed location by mysterious gunmen, but no statement was released. He has not been able to contact his family.

A community source who spoke on condition of anonymity told our correspondent on Saturday: “His Majesty Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri, former King of Ezeimo, has been abducted by unknown persons from the residence of Odumara Olodo in Owerri, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State.” he said.

He said a group of four heavily armed men in a green Toyota Highlander abducted the former Ezeimo, and his cousin escaped. The kidnappers abducted Eseymo and drove towards the Umaka-Orlu road.

Confirming the ugly development, the Imo Police Command spokesperson, Mr. Henry Okoye, said the command had launched an intensive investigation.

He added: “We have taken proactive steps to rescue the victims and ensure that the kidnappers are apprehended and face the full punishment of the law.” We will provide updates on this matter in due course. ”
