Aregbesola can never lead Osun’s political system — Lasun Yusuf

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rasun Yusuf, has declared that former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, can never be the leader of any political establishment in the state.

Mr Yusuf, who is a candidate of the Labor Party in the 2022 Osun governorship election, added that Mr Aregbesola’s political influence had waned.

He said this while responding to a question on a radio show in Osogbo on Monday.

Yusuf said: “If something bad befalls Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, I won't be happy. I always wish him the best. We were together; we have come a long way.'' In fact, we spent quality time together in the political arena, but all I know is that his sphere of influence in Osun's political firmament is gone. . He cannot be the leader of this state's political system again.

“While he was out of office, he tried to ensure that the progressives remained in power in Osun, but all I know is that he is just trying, but not to the leadership of the state as he has struggled in the past. It's already too late.

“I said this because I knew that he became governor through collective leadership. Just as I couldn’t be the governor that I wanted, I also wanted him to be the governor that he wanted to be. Becoming a leader is not easy either.

“It's just a ruse to say he'll let people know where he's going by the end of this year. Time has passed for that. Life doesn't wait for things like that.”

Mr. Yusuf's uprising comes days after Mr. Aleghebusola declared that by the end of 2024, his supporters will know where their interests lie in state politics.

Aregbesola also spoke about how efforts to ensure that the All Progressives Congress (APC) contests the 2022 Osun governorship election as a united party have failed.

He also revealed that he did not participate in the 2022 Osun APC Guber campaign after the leader of the campaign organization declared that “those who are not invited should not bother to come”.
